"Where You Grow"

Hello...  I'm Miss Lady Bug.  Visit my garden to chat about methods on growing vegetables and herbs, companion planting, raised bed gardening, composting, preserving, and much more.

Once you start your garden, you will find that nothing compares to the freshness and variety of what you can grow in your own backyard.

It's healthy and rewarding to grow...

Planning Your Garden

Decide which vegetables your family loves and then buy your seeds.  The cost for seeds is very reasonable, and the packages will give you specific instructions on how to plant them.

~ Plan how many plants per family member you will need based on consuming fresh produce and preserving it.
~ Choose a sunny spot that has direct sunlight for an average of six to eight hours.
~ Prepare your soil - this is the key to a great garden!
~ Consider a compost bin.
~ Get familiar with summer crops and fall crops.
~ Plant tall crops on the north side of your garden, medium crops in the center, and low growing crops on the south side.
~ Rows should run north - south.
~ Create mounds for vining crops and save space by trellising.
~ Consider planting in raised beds, and plant no wider than 4’, or no wider than you can comfortably reach.
~ Consider square foot gardening; planting small but intensively.
~ Consider companion planting for healthier results and pest control.
~ Plant near your water source.
~ Consider rain barrels.
